Please Join Us for the 2nd Annual HNA 4th of July Parade and Picnic

On Wednesday, July 4th at 10:00 am, the second annual 4th of July Parade and Picnic will be presented by the Hancock Neighborhood Association.

All families and pets are invited to participate in the parade or to cheer on the participants along the route. The parade route will begin at the Lee Elementary School parking lot on Harris Avenue and travel west on Harris Avenue, north on Woodrow Street, west on Texas Avenue, south on Montrose, and then follow Harris Avenue back to Lee Elementary. At the school we will enjoy watermelon, lemonade, cold water, entertainment for the kids and more!

Dress up your pets, children, wagons, and bikes and join your neighbors in celebrating this festive occasion.

In an effort to keep the cost down, we are asking neighbors to volunteer to provide food and beverages for the event. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions, please contact Cynthia Smith at cynthia_smith@alumni.utexas.net.

Imagine Austin at City Council: 6pm Thursday, 6/14

The hearing on the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan is item 58 on this Thursday's City Council agenda. The public hearings are scheduled to begin at 4 PM. There are 9 items under the heading Public Hearings and Possible Actions that precede Imagine Austin so it is unlikely that the hearing on the comp plan will be right at 4.

If you have concerns about the comprehensive plan - things that are in the plan that need to stay in the plan, things that are not in the plan that should be, things that are in the plan but should not be - I recommend that you participate in the public hearing. This plan will guide the city for some time so it is important that it is done right, or at least as close to right as possible.

If you want to review the plan you can access it here: http://www.imagineaustin.net/plan

Thursday’s public hearing on Imagine Austin will be time certain (that is, not before) 6pm. Please join us and share your thoughts with Council.

Meeting Notes- 6-6 Zoning Committee Meeting

1. 905 E 38th Day Care- Austin’s Pride & Joy.
1.1 A draft affidavit was reviewed. This affidavit is to give the neighborhood assurance that the property owner would remove the conditional overlay to the zoning at this lot to allow for a day care use, at time that Austin’s Pride & Joy is no longer in business or is no longer operating at this location. Motion passed (unanimous): Zoning Committee recommends that the neighborhood adopt the document with the understanding that Shannon Ratliff, an HNA member, will fine tune the language and add HNA as a signer (Mike Hirsch, President).

2. 4306 Red River request to change zoning from LO to LR and amend the Neighborhood Plan Land Use from Mixed Use Office to Neighborhood Mixed Use to operate Austin Vintage Guitars at the location that has previously been a beauty parlor.
2.1. The neighborhood heard from this applicant in a recent meeting and the neighborhood was in favor of the out of cycle neighborhood plan amendment if no objections were raised in this zoning committee meeting regarding the plan amendment. Current zoning does not allow for Consumer Repair Services use that is required to operate this business.
2.2. The potential owner and operator of the guitar business plans to remove the garage apartment and add a second story to the existing front building. Tuning room will be soundproofed.
